Off-Campus Housing Near IAU's Koreatown Campus: A First-Timer's Guide

What to know before your first off-campus search near International American University's Wilshire Blvd campus.

International American University's Los Angeles campus sits right on Wilshire Blvd in Koreatown, which changes the off-campus math compared to a more traditional, car-dependent college town.

The campus is genuinely transit-connected. It sits on the Metro D Line (formerly Purple Line), which puts Koreatown, Wilshire Center, and Downtown LA all within easy reach without a car — a real advantage if you're coming from somewhere without a strong transit system and weren't expecting that in LA.

Koreatown and Wilshire Center are the closest, most walkable options. Beyond that, Hancock Park and Mid-Wilshire are a short commute by car, bike, or Metro — worth considering if Koreatown's density isn't what you're looking for.

Further out (Silver Lake, Los Feliz) is where a car starts to matter. Those neighborhoods have their own appeal but aren't on the same direct transit line, so factor in the commute honestly if you're weighing them.

One thing specific to IAU: the trimester schedule means intakes happen several times a year, not just once in the fall — see housing on a trimester schedule for how that changes your search timeline.
