LMU Off-Campus Housing: Westchester, Playa Vista, and Silicon Beach Explained

LMU sits right at the edge of LA's Silicon Beach tech corridor, which changes the off-campus housing math compared to other LA schools.

Loyola Marymount University sits in Westchester, right at the edge of what's become known as Silicon Beach — LA's coastal tech and media corridor — which gives its off-campus housing market a different character than a more traditional college-town search.

Westchester itself is the closest and most straightforward option — a quieter, more residential LA neighborhood than its Silicon Beach neighbors, generally a calmer price point too.

Playa Vista, just south, is newer development and noticeably more upscale — you're paying a real premium for newer buildings and proximity to the tech offices (Google, YouTube, and others) that have moved into the area.

Marina del Rey and Culver City, both a short drive away, widen the search with their own distinct character — Marina del Rey's waterfront feel, Culver City's growing restaurant and entertainment-industry scene.

The practical tradeoff: Westchester wins on straightforward affordability and proximity; Playa Vista and Marina del Rey trade price for a more polished, amenity-heavy living experience. Neither is objectively better — it depends what you're optimizing for.
